"Upside-Down" Dinner
On 16 January 1914, B C Hucks – the first British airman to “loop the loop” – and Gustav Hamel – the first British airman to “loop the loop” with a passenger – were honoured at a special “upside-down” dinner at the Royal Automobile Club. The menu (below, left) was printed from right to left, and the courses were served in reverse order. The Royal Aero Club Collection includes a scrap-book of memorabilia put together by or for Bernard Isaac (circled, below right), one of the organisers of the event.
