Bert Emblin's Photographs
The Harrington Arms Hotel (above) in Alvaston, Derbyshire, may seem an unlikely venue for an exhibition of aviation souvenirs. However, in 1916, when Bert Emblin became the new proprietor of the hotel, he exhibited many interesting souvenirs that he had collected while working as a sporting journalist. These included a scale model Blériot monoplane that had been made by the Hendon mechanics as a presentation to Claude Grahame-White at his wedding, and which Grahame-White had later presented to Emblin. Emblin also had a unique collection of signed photographs of well-known early aviators. At least two of these photographs (shown below) have survived, and now form part of the Royal Aero Club Collection.
